To update the audio driver manually, you can go to the official website of your device manufacturer, find the driver corresponding with your specific flavor of Windows version for example, Windows 64 bit and download it manually. Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for your exact audio device, and your Windows version, and it will download and install them correctly:. So does the driver update get your Zoom audio back on track?
If not, there are a few more fixes to try. You need to configure the sound settings on your computer properly before Zoom can access your speaker and microphone. An out-of-date operating system might trigger various weird issues including Zoom sound not working. For better performance and stability of Windows, make sure you check for the updates regularly.
Once done, restart your computer for the changes to take full effect, and you should be hearing the sound on Zoom normally. Have further questions or suggestions? After clicking the caret next to the mic icon, select Test speaker and microphone. If you don't see the option to join audio, tap the three dots in the bottom-right corner and select Disconnect Audio and then follow the above steps to rejoin. You may also want to make sure Zoom has permission to use the microphone, which can be accessed through your phone settings.
On an iPhone, navigate to the Zoom app within your settings, then make sure that the microphone option is toggled on. In this case, the issue is probably in your speakers, so be sure to check your selected speaker source and the volume levels on your device.
Make sure the correct speaker is selected if not, select the correct speaker. If you don't see the Join Audio option, double-check that the speaker icon in the top-left corner of the screen doesn't have an "x" next to it ; if it does, tap the icon to enable the speaker.
If the sound is getting through, but the quality is subpar, there could be a few things going on:. In some cases, it's best to ask everyone to check that they mute themselves when not speaking.
That can help cut down on background noise, too. You may also need to ask people to mute one at a time so you can isolate the issue and have the person who is causing the audio issue fix it. If after troubleshooting your audio on your computer you still can't get it to work, the phone audio option is a great alternative. In the Zoom window on your computer, select the caret next to the speaker.
Select the Phone Call tab and follow the instructions to call into the meeting call one of the numbers listed, then enter your meeting ID and then your participant ID. Slow internet causes poor quality video streaming, and buffering disconnection.
So if your WiFi connection or cellular connection has even a slight fluctuation, it can cause high latency , and some of those data packets may get lost or interrupted in their journey.
This results in audio cutting in and out, and lagging video. These problems can even lead to Zoom disconnecting altogether. Not the ideal situation when trying to conduct an important meeting.
Before you start your meeting or conference, it's a good idea to check your video and audio settings. You can do this by joining a test call. Zoom will test your speakers automatically. If you can't hear a ringtone, click on the drop-down menu and select No to switch your speakers until you hear the ringtone. Then click Yes to continue to the 'access your microphone' test. Many enterprise organizations are heavy Zoom users.
Obviously, all users joining a meeting need to be able to see and hear clearly from any device. Improving audio quality means improving any meeting outcome. The best way to improve the audio quality on your Zoom calls is to use a high quality microphone and make sure it's set up properly. Computer audio meaning the microphone built into your laptop or webcam doesn't have the quality or fidelity of an independent microphone.
As well as better audio quality, you can access your microphone more easily, positioning it, and yourself optimally for the best sound delivery. Alternatively, a good quality headset will sound better than the microphone on your computer, and isolate your audio from background noise.
Zoom gives you the option of how you connect your audio when you're joining a meeting. You can connect via your computer's audio, or by dialing into a phone number.
You should choose the option that gives you the best sound quality, but only choose one, otherwise you'll experience unwanted echo. Make sure to check that your microphone isn't picking up sound from your speaker if you are using an external speaker.
Echo can also occur if you're too close to another person who is on the same Zoom call. One of the most controllable things you can do to improve audio quality during a Zoom meeting is to check your proximity. Too close to the microphone can make your voice sound muffled and accentuate all sorts of unwanted breathing and saliva noises.
If you sit too far away, you risk being drowned out.
